Interesting concept here of “political ecology”. I have never heard of this term, but it provides a pretty nice distinction between the science of ecology and those social and political movements that seek to make us more respectful of the ecological systems on which we depend.

What is a little weird about this article is its reference to “nurturing nature” — as if that is something we could even do if we had the inclination to do so. I am pretty skeptical of our ability to engineer nature, and a great many ecosystem services that we take for granted economically rely on the past and present actions of ecosystems left to their own devices.
