Bob Sokal was already a Professor Emeritus by the time I arrived at Stony Brook, but through his book Biometry (and his long-time collaboration with Jim Rohlf), Sokal’s legacy was always apparent. I was lucky to be a Stony Brook student at a time when George C. Williams, Larry Slobodkin, and Bob Sokal were still roaming the halls; I am thankful for the role that these three scientists played in creating the department that was my academic launching pad.
