Green Week 2014 #02 Green Week 2014 #01

Every year, Pratt’s Sustainability Coalition hosts Green Week, a celebration of Pratt’s efforts to build a more sustainable society within and beyond our campus walls. This year’s Green Week will feature a variety of events, including two events that I will be involved with.

The first event has become an annual tradition: New York City’s Department of Transportation kicks off the Spring season by coming to campus to give away free helmets and the new NYC Bike Map. This is a great event because it promotes two kinds of “sustainability”: helmet recipients can sustain all that valuable life learning housed in their heads by wearing a helmet when riding their bike, one of the most sustainable means of personal transportation.

The second event is the Envirolutions student club joust performance and pledge/petition drive. I can only claim peripheral credit for this event, which has been entirely conceived and executed by Envirolutions club members. I do not want to give away too much of what will unfold, but there will be a joust between two knights donning armor that could not be recycled… and if that does not pique your interest, I don’t know what will. There will also be the opportunity to sign a really important pledge/petition with the potential to radically change how effectively Pratt recycles.

Both of these events occur on Thursday, April 3rd from 12:30-2:30 pm outside of East Hall/The Pratt Chapel. In the event of rain, snow, or other forms of unpleasant weather, we will move inside to the Student Union. Show up to protect your brain, pledge your support for better recycling behavior, and petition for better recycling policy at Pratt.
