Over the next nine days I have nineteen more term papers to grade, two final exams to write/administer/grade for thirty-six students, and twenty final projects to assess. The semester’s almost over, and that end is bringing with it all the usual immediate pain and anticipated joy. In the midst of this chaos it is a little hard to process and appreciate the news that came to me via the postbox today.
The letters above come from Provost Peter Barna and report that the Board of Trustees of Pratt Institute has approved my application for tenure. On August 25th, 2014 (the first day of the Fall semester) I will officially assume the rank of Associate Professor with tenure. It has been a school-year-long journey, and I am finally at journey’s end.
When the semester ends, I am sure I will have the opportunity to reflect upon the importance of this milestone and — perhaps — to celebrate it.A Major Post, Higher Education, Pratt Institute
